Hello, I’m Rachael or as I'm otherwise known, MissBashfulFace. What are video games to me? I like to think that they are a medium for people to express themselves and to find others with similar interests. A virtual story, written, drawn, made by passionate people that want to connect or express a feeling/idea to others. They are something to take in and to appreciate. I love looking at the work put into a game, it helps me view the world in positivity. Seeing the artwork, characters, world building, and game design that game developers put into their games for others is such a joyous experience for me. I love seeing what universes others can create and video games allow us to enter those universes to experience what the creators wanted. That’s just so cool and seeing what people are able to create just keeps my faith alive in the world and myself.

As someone who also suffers greatly from anxiety, social and not so much, video games are a fantastic gateway for me to interact with others. It may not always be a big interaction but even a simple in-game, “hello” can explode into a plethora of emoting and dancing around. These simple connections are fascinating to me. I may not ever see the other person again or play with them again but those little interactions can mean a lot and great moments become a way to fondly remember a game. These interactions exist out of game as well. On message boards and other social media sites. Creating communities of people who simply love all things gaming. I have met some wonderful people this way and am super thankful that video games exist!

Video games are an incredible tool to create our visions and meet people with similar interests. They help drive people creatively by giving us hope that we can make our dreams a reality. They can also give hope in storytelling and help us get through our day to day lives. Games can create friendships and memories that can last a lifetime or a fleeting moment. I am constantly impressed by the games that are made and how people interact with them and other people. The strong emotions that video games can create are stunning. Video games have given me so much in creativity and friendship, that’s what video games mean to me.
